Constantinos the New Martyr of Hydra
Saint Constantinos was born in Hydra and his father's name was Michael and his mother's name was Marina. At the age of eighteen he left Hydra and went to Rhodes, near the Turkish ruler Hasan Kapetan. There Constantinos was seduced and converted to Islam, with the name Hassan and for three years he enjoyed great honors. Later, however, he realized his slip and began to repent. He did alms and wept bitterly. Finally, in order to atone, he decided to testify. So he found someone spiritual, confessed and asked for his wish to testify. But his spiritual one prevented him, because he was afraid of his young age. Constantine obeyed, left Rhodes and went to the city of Krimi, then to Constantinople and from there to Mount Athos. In the Monastery of Iberon, he prepared for martyrdom and after receiving the blessing of the fathers he came to Rhodes. There, he presented himself to the ruler and courageously confessed Christ. The torture that followed was horrific. He was finally hanged on November 14, 1800 AD. Today, in his birthplace of Hydra, there is a magnificent Temple named after him, where his holy relic is also located. His memory is commemorated on November 14.
