Sevastianos

Saint Sebastian is a Christian saint and martyr. He is said to have been killed during the Roman emperor Diocletian's persecution of Christians. He is often depicted in art and literature tied to a tree and impaled with arrows. This is the most common artistic depiction of the saint. However, according to a legend, he himself was rescued and healed by the Peace of Rome. Shortly afterwards he criticized the person of Diocletian and was therefore clubbed to death. He is honored in the Catholic and Orthodox Churches. He is commonly known as the "patron saint of sportsmen".
