Saint Anna is the Mother of the Virgin Mary. According to Church tradition, Saint Anna came from the tribe of Levi and was married to Joachim. The couple was childless for many years and begged God for the birth of a child. In old age, he had the Virgin Mary, who, as soon as she was weaned, was delivered into the hands of the Church of Jerusalem. From then on, Saint Anna dedicated the rest of her life to fasting and prayer, until she peacefully gave up her spirit. Part of her relics are in the Holy Monastery of Agia Anna on Mount Athos. Her memory is commemorated three times during the year, on December 9th the Conception, on July 25th the Dormition and on September 9th together with her husband Joachim.
