Saint Patapios was born in Egypt and from a young child had a "spirit of love and punishment" (2 Timothy, a '7). That is, a spirit of love and a spirit that punishes, so that he rules himself wisely and prudently, avoiding any moral deviation, maintaining purity, but at the same time exemplifying his fellow human beings. And he proved it even more when he grew up. After distributing his inheritance to the poor, he retired to the desert. There he filled his time with prayer, study and charity. He offered rest and hospitality to every tired hiker who passed by his cell. But taking advantage of his opportunity he provided with discernment and spiritual instructions and counsel, useful for the salvation of his soul. Thus, Patapios's fame spread quickly and every day many people came to his cell to hear from his lips beneficial teaching. After a while, Patapios went to Constantinople. There, wanting to remain unknown, he chose a sanctuary in Vlachernes. However, the humble and pure life of Patapios required him to work miracles. So he became famous again and died while healing the sick.
