Antonios the Great was born in Upper Egypt, from a rich and virtuous family, in 251 AD. At a young age, however, he lost his parents. He quickly decides to give up worldly things and leaves for the desert, having first settled his younger sister and distributed the large paternal estate to the poor of his area. In the desert, he trained his soul and tamed his passions, reaching the heights of practice, so that the Saint's soul could leave his body while he was still alive. It becomes the example of the ascetics. Many of them came to the desert to listen to him and consult him. He surrendered his blessed soul to God at the age of 105.
