Prophet Abel the Righteous

(Son of Adam & Eve)

According to the Old Testament, Abel was the second son of the first married couple of humanity, Adam and Eve, brother of Cain from whom he met a tragic death.

One day Abel wanted to offer a sacrifice to God, with a few of what he had, but the choicest of things, in order to thank him for the goods he had given him. So in the sacrifice he made, the smoke rose vertically into the sky, thus giving the image of the acceptance of the sacrifice by God. Seeing this, Cain tried to make a similar sacrifice, with what was for throwing, but the smoke from this sacrifice was scattered in the air and not only did not go straight like his brother Abel's but also came towards his face.

This event angered him so much that, moved by envy, he took a sharp stone and killed his brother. The first lost blood on Earth. God took the lost Abel close because he too resembled the One who centuries later would be crucified by the unjust, again envious, Jews.

In Christianity, his memory is celebrated every year on Forefathers' Sunday (a movable feast).
