Christoforos (May 9)
Saint Christopher the Great Martyr came from a semi-barbaric tribe and was called Rebrovos, which means disapproved, damned. The Saint was so ugly in appearance that he was called a "dog-face". His conversion to Christ took place in a miraculous way. When he was still in possession, he settled in a dangerous river passage and carried free on his shoulder those who wished to cross the river. One day a small child was presented to him, who begged him to pass him on the opposite bank. But as he progressed, the weight of the child increased. As soon as he reached his destination, he told the child that even if everyone lifted up, it would not be so heavy. The child replied: "Do not be surprised, because you not only carried the whole world, but also this Placanta". After this incident, he was baptized a Christian. On this occasion, perhaps, he is considered the patron saint of drivers. From then on, the Saint simply explained the Christian teaching and after everyone expressed the desire to become Christians, he led them to the Bishop of Antioch, Babylon, who, after catechizing them, baptized them. When the emperor Decius was informed of the incident, he subjected the Saint to horrible tortures until he was martyred by beheading in 251 AD. His memory is commemorated on May 9.
