Saint Tryphon came from Lampsako in Phrygia and came from a poor family. He studied the Bible diligently and performed his religious duties with reverence. Soon his pious soul received the grace of the Holy Spirit, and God required Tryphon to perform a miracle. In 250 AD the Saint, because he did not worship the gods of the pagan religion and was a Christian, was arrested by a military man and brought before the prefects of the East, Tiberius and Claudius Aquilus, in Nicaea, Bithynia. Saint Tryphon boldly confessed his faith. He was then subjected to horrific torture. Unwavering in his faith, he testified by beheading. His memory is commemorated on February 1.
