Saint Anna is the Mother of the Virgin Mary. According to Church tradition, St. Anne descended from the tribe of Levi and was married to Joachim. The couple was childless for many years and begged God for the birth of a child. In his old age, he acquired the Virgin Mary, who, as soon as he was acquitted, surrendered to the Church of Jerusalem. Since then, St. Anne has devoted the rest of her life to fasting and prayer, until she peacefully surrendered her spirit. Some of her remains are in the Holy Monastery of Agia Anna on Mount Athos. Her memory is honored three times during the year, on December 9 the Arrest, on July 25 the Assumption and on September 9 with her husband Joachim.
